DESCRIPTION:EVENT INFORMATION \nShortages. Affordability. Rent caps\, permitting problems\, NIMBY issues. Not a week goes by without a story on housing in national and local news media. How is the Twin Cities region faring\, and what’s ahead? Four experts — rarely seen together on the same stage — will help unpack this complex and critical subject. We will hear from moderator Alene Tchourumoff\, CHRO and Senior VP of Community Development and Engagement at the Minneapolis Federal Reserve; Maureen Michalski\, Senior Vice President of Real Estate Development at Ryan Companies US; R. T. Rybak\, President and CEO of the Minneapolis Foundation; and Jamie Tharp\, Division President at Pulte Group. MWER members will leave with a better understanding of the ecosystem that is an essential ingredient in the future of our region’s economic and societal well-being. \nSPEAKER INFORMATION \nMODERATOR/PANELIST: Alene Tchourumoff\, The Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis\, is chief human resources officer of the Human Resources and Inclusion Division\, senior vice president of the Learning Management Support Office\, and senior vice president of the Community Development and Engagement Division\, which includes the Center for Indian Country Development. In these roles she leads the Bank’s internal human resources as well as the Bank’s external engagement with communities throughout the Ninth District\, with an emphasis on low- and moderate-income people and those living in Indian Country. \nPrior to joining the Bank in December 2018\, Alene served as chair of Minnesota’s Metropolitan Council\, where she built strong partnerships with local governments and community groups to advance transit\, housing\, and other critical infrastructure. She has also held leadership roles in the executive branch of the State of Minnesota and Hennepin County. \nAlene holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from George Washington University School of Business and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. \nAlene was named a 2020 Women in Business honoree by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journaland is chair of the Family Housing Fund Board and a trustee of the Minnesota Science Museum. \nPANELIST: Maureen Michalski serves as the Regional Senior Vice President of Development in Ryan Companies’ North Region\, where she is responsible for overseeing all development activities along with shared budget and operational responsibilities. She has corporate responsibility for several significant projects\, most notably the transformative 122-acre mixed-use redevelopment of Highland Bridge in Saint Paul\, MN. With more than two decades of experience in real estate development\, Maureen excels at generating opportunities and maximizing value for both investors and communities. She has created over $1.5 billion in real estate assets\, including more than 4\,700 housing units and 1.1 million square feet of commercial space. \nIn partnership with her North Region co-leader\, Maureen is responsible for establishing regional budgets\, achieving bottom line net profit targets\, sourcing new business for the company\, shaping regional goals to align with the company’s strategic plan and acting as a steward for the vibrant company culture in the North Region\, which includes Ryan’s corporate headquarters. \nAs a respected leader\, Maureen is known for her integrity and focus on building talent.  She excels at establishing a strategic vision and implementing it while empowering others and encouraging collaboration. Her authentic relationships enable her to effectively mentor and guide her fellow team members\, while building trust and high-performing teams. \nMaureen contributes to the Twin Cities community by representing Ryan Companies on the Executive Committee of the Minneapolis Downtown Council and as a Board member of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. She is also active in the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Minnesota’s local product councils\, National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and Women in Real Estate Development and Urban Planning (WIRED UP). Maureen is a graduate of Macalester College. \nPANELIST: R.T. Rybak became President and CEO of the Minneapolis Foundation in 2016 after careers in journalism\, publishing\, urban development and marketing\, and 12 years as Mayor of Minneapolis. Under his leadership the Foundation has more than doubled the money it directs to nonprofits\, now granting more than $100 million a year in Minnesota and around the world. The Foundation’s giving program focuses on equity and justice in education\, economic mobility\, and the environment\, creating what Rybak calls a “community of generosity” to align like-minded fundholders with emerging community needs. Rybak’s deepest passion is creating career pathways for youth of color\, including his founding and ongoing work with Step Up\, a youth employment program that has served more than 34\,000 Minneapolis high school students since 2003. \nPANELIST: Jamie Tharp is the Division President of PulteGroup’s Minnesota Division\, where she leads one of the state’s largest homebuilding operations. Beginning her career with the company as a college intern\, Jamie advanced through multiple leadership roles before being appointed Division President in 2017\, becoming the first woman to lead a large-volume homebuilder in Minnesota. \nUnder her leadership\, PulteGroup has experienced nearly 40% growth and introduced the Del Webb lifestyle brand to Minnesota\, revolutionizing the concept of 55+ community living in the region. Her leadership approach\, grounded in collaboration and empowerment\, has not only driven remarkable operational success but also fostered a highly regarded workplace culture. Since her appointment\, PulteGroup’s Minnesota division has been recognized annually as one of the Best Places to Work by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal. \nBeyond her professional accomplishments\, Jamie is deeply committed to community engagement. She has served on the Executive Board of the Thielen Foundation since 2018\, supporting initiatives that positively impact families and children. Her commitment to innovation\, leadership\, and community impact continues to shape both PulteGroup and the industry she represents.
